Good post, Taco. Really worrying. The proposal is full of contradictions. How can you have anonymity online if you have an individual I.D.? And who needs I.D. Cards when you have an individual identifier like the one proposed? No doubt it will eventually be used with credit cards, cash machines, etc as well.

If i recall, the internet id thing is a myth, it came out of some journalists misunderstanding of technology and the actual plan was to *stop* there being one universal ID and to put the details private companies hold on you in your own hands to edit.

I'll try to hunt out the article.
